Import Items to Cut

In order to speed up the optimization process we provided possibility to import items instead of typing all manually. This feature is available to our WORKSHOP and FACTORY users. In case you already have items you are about to cut in some other system (e.g. MS Excel), this option will save you time, since you don’t have to type the values twice.

Click “Import” to open the import dialog
Click “Import” to open the import dialog

Following dialog will appear:

Import dialog

In the dialog, you first need to choose the data source. Available sources are: MS Excel, Paste from MS Excel (default), CSV and Paste CSV. Here are the explanations for each of these:

MS Excel – You simply pick an Excel file you want to import data from. The limitation is that the data must be on the first sheet in the document, and must contain a single table with two or three columns. First column contains item length and should be numeric. Second contains item quantity, also numeric. These two columns are required. Third column with the item description is a text column and is optional. Column headers should not be included. The following image shows how MS Excel file should look like:

Excel sheet

Paste from MS Excel – is similar to the previous option but you just copy and paste the data, so basically the same data from above you first copy:

Excel sheet - selected

and paste it into the dialog:

Note that pasting from Google Sheets works as well.

CSV – Import data from the CSV (Comma Separated Values) file. The rules are the same as for MS Excel. There can be two or three columns. Length and quantity go first, they are numeric and mandatory. Third column is optional and may contain item description. The content of the file may look like this:

Text

Paste CSV – is completely the same as the previous option except you paste copied values instead of importing from file. Following image shows an example of it may look like:
